Focus on timeless pieces

Every era has its classics that transcend the ages brilliantly. In this case, the definition of classic is far from impersonal and minimalist decoration. You can define your own classic, either by choosing an antique furniture or one inspired by your most beautiful travel. Each room must be personalized and reflect those who live in it. In the living room, mix a pretty ottoman with a colourful oriental print or large black and white arabesque pattern to a rustic wooden media unit. On the other side of the room, you can mix a round-backed wooden chair to a square, glossy, ultramodern coffee table. Feel free to mix antique furniture and trendy design, which blend harmoniously. You will know how to master this trend with confidence only if you do not think mechanically and simply follow your instinct.

Ways to Decorate with Fresh Christmas Greenery

Hildreth's

We like to bring the Christmas spirit into every room in the house, and even outside the house too. One of our favorite things to use is fresh greenery that screams “the holidays are here!” There are so many fresh Christmas greenery choices out there including magnolia, pine, boxwood, and cypress. We’ve gathered together plenty of ideas on how to use these fresh pieces and more in each room of your house. Let's decorate, y'all!

Do you have large windows, use garland as window treatments.

Scatter votives of different sizes throughout fresh greenery on the table for a simple centerpiece that doesn’t have to be watered.

Curious Cat

Hildreth's

The moment of truth: The Christmas tree is set up and decorated. Will your kitty notice?

For many cat owners, the answer is a fear-inducing yes. Felines are notorious for attacking Christmas trees the second after they are decked to perfection. It takes some cats just seconds to turn a perfect tree into a mangled shrub full of broken ornaments. Other cats prefer to bat off fragile decorations or climb into the heart of the tree and make a home among the branches.

After last year’s upside-down Christmas tree trend, going with just the top half of the tree doesn’t seem too wild.

Mix & Match

Hildreth's

Popularized in 2011 and still in trend today, it is not too risky to say that the mix & match is there to stay and even become timeless. Since this trend is very abstract and can be applied to any style, any element and any personality, it is very easy to adopt. The mix & match allows you to keep an accessory or a piece of furniture that you like, but that may seem outdated and revamp it, simply by pairing it differently.

A Guide to Bar Stools

Hildreth's

It is the little things that matter when it comes to enjoying your home. Whether you are sipping your morning coffee or relaxing with a glass of wine after work, your kitchen is a space that should feel warm and inviting. It’s the place we gather with loved ones to catch up while we eat and drink. To make your kitchen complete, you need the perfect bar stools and this style guide will help you choose the best fit for your family and the way you live.

Height

You want your kitchen to be a sanctuary, so the size, style and placement are an important part of choosing the right stool.  Bar stools come in various heights (typically 24”, 30”, 34”).  To determine which size you need, simply measure the height of your table top, counter, or island.  Also, to provide space for legs and hips, a good rule of thumb is to allot 10-12 inches between the stool seat and the underside of your counter or table. If you measure from the floor to the underside of the counter, you should be able to select the proper seat height for your space. The number of stools you can fit in your seating area is determined by the amount of space you leave to allow for easy maneuvering.

Design

Bar stools are a staple seating choice in every home, so we want to be sure that you find the perfect style for your space. There are three basic variations:

  • Backless- These tuck easily under the eating surface and provide understated utility

  • Low Back- These provide visual interest and physical support

  • Full Back – These stools are comfortable and can complement your dining chairs

Details

Deciding between wood or fabric stools depends on your design plan and the look you want for your home. Wood seats are timeless and show beautifully hand-crafted birch while allowing for easy cleaning when unexpected spills occur. They can offer both a traditional or contemporary look, come in a variety of stains and even feature fixed or swivel options. Fabric seats provide a splash of color while offering comfort to your guests. They also give you the ability to spot clean with soap and water.  From luxurious leather to protected Sunbrella fabrics, there are plenty of options to help you find the perfect match.

In the End…

Choosing a bar stool can be overwhelming and complicated, but it doesn’t have to be if you follow these simple steps. Hoping this guide will help you to create an Inspired space!

When installing curtain rods, hang the rod so that it extends at least 3 or 4 inches beyond the window on each side, which allows your curtains to overlap both the window and the wall to prevent light from leaking in around the window's edges.

A dining room chandelier (or other hanging fixture) traditionally hangs above the center of the dining table and is a primary design feature in the room. This means that the chandelier's height is important not only for its function as a light fixture but also for its role in the overall room decor.  The generally accepted rule for hanging dining room chandeliers is that the bottom of the fixture should hang between 35 inches above the top of the dining table.
